Virtual visiting has increased patient morale and wellbeing

Due to your kind donations and fundraising, we are able to make patient experience better with virtual visits.

Carol Gregson, Lead Nurse, requested for an additional tablet cart with extension bar for the tablet to sit in. Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust currently have 2 carts which were purchased by the organisation to facilitate virtual visits between our inpatients and their families/relatives across both sites. The Trust have an additional 2 devices which are housed in hard cases which are for table use only.

Feedback from patients and relatives is more favourable for the carts - Carol explained that they would like to have access to 2 carts on the HRI site. As this service became more established, Carol and her team wanted to listen to patient/relative feedback, it was recommended that they needed to provide bigger screened devices. This service does not have its own budget, so Carol had to rely on the Charitiable Funds and generous donations which has provided 'a gold standard service'.

"The cart has been instrumental to providing visits to those who are unable to hold a tablet, such as patients in ITU, stroke, elderly, orthopaedics and has been greatly received.

The cart also enables us to connect families with patients who would not be able to use digital technology, the tablet is set up and encased within the cart and positioned ready to go." - Carol Gregson.

Feedback from patients, relatives and colleagues -

Daily virtual visits provided for daughter of inpatient who lives in Switzerland. "The difference being able to see my dad everyday has been indescribable, I couldn't thank you more for organising these daily visits" (855 miles away)

Had a call from a relative in Austrailia, her father was on ward 19, he has now been discharged. She wanted to thank the team and said the service has been invaluable to her and her family. She was very reassured that she could see and speak with him every day. (9,501 miles away)

Providing daily visits between a afather and daughter, daughter was in Indonesia (7,271 miles away)

A gentleman was due to walk his daughter down the aisle for her wedding, unfortunately before the wedding, he was hospitalised with COVID, we arranged a longer slot for the gentleman to be able to see his daughter get married, this was a visit I will never forget, and I was proud we were able to help in such an unfortune circumstance.

We provide visits for families to connect with children/grandchildren who are unable to come in and visit face to face, I witnessed the difference a lady seeing and speaking to her grandchildren made on her morale and wellbeing, it was heart-warming to see.

Thanks to your kind donations and fundraising, we are able to make patient experience better and make people feel more comfortable in our hospitals.
