Meet London Marathon Runner Sophie

Sophie Box, General Manager Reconfiguration and Transformation at CHFT

How did you feel when you found out you'd secured a place in the London Marathon thought CHFT Charity?

I was absolutely thrilled! It’s not every day you get the chance to run one of the world’s most iconic marathons and doing it for CHFT Charity makes it even more special.

Is there a personal reason or cause that inspired you to take on this challenge?

Definitely. I started running in August 2025, and this whole journey is deeply personal. Brighton will be in memory of my nanna, and the race falls on what would have been her 90th birthday – so that one’s going to be emotional. My whole family have booked to come and watch me in Brighton, which makes it even more special. London is for my Aunty Karen, who worked as a nurse at CHFT. She was an incredible person who cared so much for others, and this is my way of honouring her memory

What does running the London Marathon mean to you?

it’s a way to celebrate Karen’s life and the amazing work she did at CHFT. It’s also a chance to give back to the charity that supports so many people in our community. Plus, it’s proof that starting something new (like running!) can lead to incredible things.

What are you most excited about (or nervous about) on race day?

The atmosphere, the crowds, the energy and the landmarks…. But also enjoying the food and a glass of prosecco afterwards!

Do you have any fundraising plans in mind or ideas for how you'll be raising sponsorship?

It’s going to be a real push towards sponsorship, plus plenty of bun sales and raffles. I’m keeping it simple and focused – no fancy extras, just good old-fashioned fundraising and lots of cake!
