Ray of Sunshine Campaign needs you!

Our aim for the Ray of Sunshine Campaign is to brighten the care and experience of babies, children, young people and their families. Whether in hospital or in the community, their individual needs will be met, reducing avoidable distress and trauma. Helping to shape and enhance the future of local healthcare for our communities and future generations.

Every year our Children's services at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust treat an average of 34,810 children from just being born to 18-years-old. The changes we want to make will have a positive impact on the care and experience of young patients and their families.

In 2024 we co-created and supported the launch of the Trust-wide Children and Young People Strategy. Alongside Lead Nurse for Children and Young People, Julie Mellor, the Ray of Sunshine Campaign was created, recognising the amazing difference donations through our charity, or time volunteered make.

Help make amazing happen

Each year, CHFT Charity's funding makes a huge difference, and helps thousands of children. The Ray of Sunshine Campaign will prioritise three mini projects through 2025, these include:

We are transforming three parent rooms into comfortable spaces where parents can stay overnight, close to their newborns. With your support, we'll redecorate these rooms, purchase suitable furniture, and make them feel homely and welcoming, allowing families can focus on what matters most.

The play team brightens the days of children, helping them cope with treatment through play and creativity. With your donations, we'll ensure the team has the resources to keep children engaged, distracted and feeling supported - becasue every child deserves a reason to smile.

Living with diabetes can be isolating for young patients. That's why our children's diabetes team organises peer-to-peer events and activities to help them build meaningful friendships, learn from each other, and gain confidence in managing their condition.

Hello, my name is Jude!

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Charity's Ray of Sunshine Campaign needs you! With your help, we can make a huge difference to local children and families, so that children and young people just like me, receive the best possible care in a welcoming and safe hospital environment.

In November 2023, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This was a hard time for my family and I, managing my diabetes at first was really tough.

We had so much support from the Children's Diabetes Team, everyone was so kind, helping my family and I understand more about living with Type 1 Diabetes, both at home and at school.

However, what made the biggest difference was the Charity Christmas Party I attended. I was able to make new friends and learn that I can still live my active life even with diabetes.

I know the events are funded by donations to CHFT Charity and would not be possible if it was not for the amazing help of people just like you!

I'd like to say a VERY BIG thanks to you for supporting the Ray of Sunshine Campaign, so that my friends and I receive the best possible care and experience.
