Supporting families experiencing baby loss
Our Vision for the Maternity Bereavement Appeal is to ensure everyone affected by miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death, who is cared for by CHFT, receives the support they need, in an environment that’s right for them.
Why this appeal matters:

"We know that our current bereavement facilities don't support families in the best way possible and we need to change that." - Sarah Hall, Specialist Bereavement Midwife.
Donate today to show your support for local bereaved families across Calderdale and Kirklees.
Our aim is to raise £500,000 so that we can:
- Create a comfortable, home from home, self-contained suite to be used by families who sadly experience a late pregnancy loss, with a birth or neonatal death.
- Offer grieving families the support and privacy they need, creating a welcoming environment, which include natural day light, without disturbance from other hospital wards or departments.
- To create a new, beautifully furnished Counselling Room within the hospital's Early Pregnancy Unit, as a place to support families experiencing early miscarriage.
- From fixture, fitting and furnishing, to dignity packs, care packs and memory making resources, the appeal will provide the wrap around care families experiencing baby loss deserve.
"It's important for families to have the opportunity to make memories with their baby, as this is the only thing they leave the hospital with." - Natalie, parent who suffered baby loss.

Current suite
Our current Maternity Bereavement room is located in the middle of the busy Labour Ward at Calderdale Royal Hospital. With no natural day light and is too small to welcome extended family members and maximise memory making opportunities. The room is not the welcoming, quite or comforting space that a grieving family needs to meet their baby, make memories and start to come to terms with their loss.
New Suite
The appeal will refurbished the existing Antenatal Day Unit, transforming the unit into a self-contained suite for families experiencing baby loss. The suite will include an en-suite, kitchenette, double wall mounted bed so partners can stay, a television, homely decor, space for extended family members and much more.
"By donating to the appeal, you will truly be making the biggest difference to local families throughout the most traumatic time. This appeal reflects the very purpose and mission of CHFT Charity and we believe that we can achieve this goal by coming together to support local families." - Emma Kovaleski, Head of Charity and Volunteering Services.
