Understand how important a new bereavement suite is to our Chaplaincy team. A blog from Zeenat Hussain, Hospital Chaplain.

What does the new bereavement suite mean to you?

"The Chaplaincy provides pastoral, spiritual and religious care, available to all parents and families, regardless of faith denomination, or belief. The new bereavement suite represents a compassionate and supportive space where families experiencing loss can find comfort, privacy and dignity. It acknowledges the profound emotional impact of bereavement and ensures that families receive the care they need during such difficult moments."

What role do you currently carry out, and how will you continue to do so in the new suite? How might the new suite help you better serve the religious needs of bereaved families?

"Chaplains offer care and support for families, whether by meeting religious and cultural needs or simply being a quiet presence, offering a listening ear. They help families navigate grief while respecting their traditions and beliefs. The suite provides an enhanced environment for meaningful engagement, ensuring families can carry our necessary rites and rituals in a peaceful and accommodating setting."

Why is it important to have a dedicated, home-like space where families can process their loss and engage in religious rituals, if they wish?

"A dedicated bereavement suite creates a sanctuary where families can grieve in a private, personal way. It allows them to honour their loved ones through customs and rituals that bring comfort, ensuring they are not rushed or interrupted during their mourning process."

How can the local faith community or religious organisations support the Maternity Bereavement Appeal or the families who use it?

"Faith communities can provide both practical and emotional support, such as fundraising, offering pastoral care and providing religious guidance to families in need."
