Volunteer with CHFT

Volunteering has been part of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust since the very beginning, and today our volunteers continue to make a real difference across our hospitals and services.

Every year, volunteers give thousands of hours to support patients, families, carers, and staff. Whether it's offering a warm welcome, a listening ear, or practical support on our wards and departments, their contribution helps make CHFT a place of compassion, connection, and community.

Why Volunteer?

Our newly developed volunteering service offers a range of rewarding opportunities, including our core Hospital Support Volunteer role, where you can make a meaningful impact in patient care areas across both hospitals.

Volunteering is open to anyone aged 17 and over, and there are opportunities to suit people from all walks of life. Whether you're looking to give back, gain experience, meet new people, or be part of something meaningful, there's a place for you at CHFT.

As a volunteer, you'll enjoy:

  • Making a positive difference to local people
  • Meeting new people and building friendships
  • Being part of a supportive community
  • Access to volunteer celebrations and recognition events

To help create consistency and meaningful impact, we ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of six months where possible.

Volunteering vs Work Experience

Volunteering involves giving your time to support patients, visitors, and staff in people-focused roles that make a positive difference.

Work experience is usually a short-term placement designed to provide insight into a specific career or department, often with structured learning objectives.

Please note that Volunteering Services does not arrange work experience placements. For work experience enquiries, contact wideningparticipation@cht.nhs.uk.
