Henna and Hassan's Story:

I would like to say thank you for your support and the support of the other midwives and staff during my time in the bereavement suite. I feel so grateful for how much you looked after us and our baby during our stay. The staff and midwives checked on my physical and mental health as well my husband and extended families; while making sure everything was set for our baby. Their after care and support helped us greatly in returning back to daily life whilst dealing with the loss of our baby boy. I am extremely grateful for all your support.

I feel the existing Bereavement suite at the Calderdale Royal Hospital provided a safe and quiet space to spend time with our baby and to grieve his loss. However, the space felt quite cramped when we had a lot of friends and family coming to visit us. It was also a difficult task to perform religious rituals to prepare our baby for burial, however the staff did try their best to provide for us as best they could. At times, I could also hear families celebrating their baby's births in the labour ward.

I feel a larger bereavement suite at the Calderdale Royal Hospital will greatly help parents and families who have lost their baby. By having a larger space, with a 'home away from home' feel, would help parents and families feel much more comfortable, allowing them the privacy to grieve the loss of the baby whilst not feeling cramped in a small space.

I also feel a separate room containing facilities for family to perform religious rituals would provide a larger and more comfortable space for them to do this.

Thank you for your support in helping to achieve this goal, as it would help so many local families.
