Fundraising in aid of CHFT Stroke Ward:

On the 4th May 2023, Paul Hodgson, 49 years old, suffered a severe stroke whilst attending the Huddersfield Town vs Sheffield United game. This happened just before kick-off, thankfully Paul received an amazing, swift response from everyone around them, including fans, friends, stewards, Huddersfield Town staff, medical volunteers, and paramedics. Paul received anti-coagulant drugs with 90 minutes of his collapse, which is fast if you bear in mind that he was transferred from the stadium in Huddersfield to Halifax. Paul and his family are very grateful for all the help Paul received that evening, especially from the ambulance staff and those at Calderdale Royal Hospital Stroke Unit.

Paul's stroke happened because of a blood clot, Paul is keen to raise awareness of this so that other may recognise the symptoms and seek medical attention before the blood clot causes a stroke.

Paul spent over 9 weeks in Calderdale Royal Hospital and was recently discharge home where he will receive further care and therapy. Michelle Bennett, sister of Paul who has been attending Town game with Paul for 43 years, has set up a JustGiving page to raise funds in aid of our Stoke Rehab Therapy Team at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. The team are working hard to help Pauldaily with is recovery and are also helping many other patients from Calderdale and Huddersfield too. All funds raised will go towards our Stroke Ward.

ICU Fundraiser:

On the 13th of March 2023, Jodie … was admitted to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary’s ICU Unit with sepsis and pneumonia – unfortunately Jodie’s organs failed, and she was put into an induced coma. To doctors and nurses at the hospital worked tirelessly to save Jodie’s life and against all odds, Jodie is now home with her little boy Teddy and fiancé, Sam.

Jodie spent 45 days in ICU and has had to learn how to walk, drink and eat again. Unfortunately, Jodie’s recovery journey is not over yet, however, Jodie and her family have the determination to get her to where she needs to be.

Jodie, her family, and friends will forever be grateful for the amazing care and support Jodie received from all the doctors and nurses at HRI. “Her family and friends will forever be in debt to these special people who fought so hard to bring Jodie home.” – Joanne Wood, Jodie’s friend.

On the 19th of August, what would’ve been Jodie and Sam’s wedding, a group of Jodie’s friends are walking a 20k route in North Yorkshire to raise funds for our ICU Unit – Jodie may even meet them at the finishing line.

The CHFT Charity team met up with Stephen as he made his way through Halifax. Stephen's journey is going well, but very tough! The aim is for Stephen to be at his end point by the end of August - so not long at all.

Stephen is smashing this journey and we couldn't be prouder of him!!
