Children's Ward hygiene packs reduce anxiety

NEED:

Our Children's Ward at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust came to us with the idea of making up comfort packs for parents of a patient who are admitted acutely and unable to obtain hygiene items, espeically overnight.

WHAT WE DID:

We listened to our patients who provided feedback to our Children' Ward colleagues. This feedback included requests for eye masks to help them sleep when their babies are on phototherapy. These packs will allow parents to have some hygiene items for immediate use on acute admissions. Items have been funded for teenagers use as well.

These hygiene packs have been adapted from the COVID packs which were a success.

IMPACT:

These packs will allow parents to not worry about trying to get items out of hours and leaving their children, this means these packs will be reducing anxiety. This funding is to help make a stay less stressful. These packs will only be given out when needed, they won't be handed out on every admission.

"Thanks to everyone who's been involved in our fundraising events or donated to the ward, we are looking to continue these packs as we believe they will make a big difference to our patients." - Helen Finelli, Sister/Charge Nurse for Paediatrics.

Items funded include:

  • Toothbrush & toothpaste
  • Deodorant
  • Shower Gel
  • Notebook & pen
  • Sanitary Products
  • Brush
  • Eye mask & ear plugs

We would like to say a special thanks to Morrisons in Halifax for kindly donating a handful of items to go towards these packs.
